Report of the
Jury (April 9, 1994)
In
consideration of the outstanding contribution of Professor Eric Derouane
to the understanding of the molecular mechanism of catalytic reactions
in zeolites, in particular the novel concepts of restricted transition
state shape selectivity, molecular traffic control and the effect of
confinement, and taking into account that the fundamental studies in the
field led to technological progress of great value to the welfare of the
society, decide to propose to the Board of Trustees to grant the
Francqui Prize 1994 to Mr. Eric G. Derouane, Professor at the Facultés
Universitaires Notre-Dame de la Paix à Namur.
The Jury
recognizes with great satisfaction the very high level of the condidates
presented, which reflects an outstanding standard of research in exact
sciences at Belgian universities.
